Mara “Rama” Chavez

Director

Mara “Rama” Chavez (she, her, ella) is a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, activist, and holistic educator who is rooted in the Bay Area. She is the daughter of migrant parents from Mexico and was the first in her large extended family to attend college. She received her BA in Ethnic Studies from Mills College and a MA and Ph.D in Social and Cultural Studies from UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education. Informed by her lived experiences, her scholarship and praxis is committed to working towards co-creating and building more holistic models of education and youth organizing that are inclusive of a healing praxis and fostering student wellbeing as critical to working with Young People of Color and Communities of Color.
