Helping Handbook for those affected by Northern California Wildfires

The Wildfires that have ravaged Northern California this month destroyed more than 7,000 buildings, according to state officials, leaving thousands of people without a home, a business, or personal documents. As the fires get under control, those affected by this tragedy need information about what to do and how to start moving forward. Responding to this need, Morrison & Foerster has produced the Northern California Wildfires Helping Handbook. The Handbook gathers in one place up-to-date, practical information on subjects that include the emergency housing; government benefits; insurance; FEMA assistance; replacement of lost documents; fraud prevention and many others.

The Helping Handbook project was led by Robert Falk, a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office, along with pro bono counsel Dorothy Fernandez and Rachel Williams. Dozens of MoFo lawyers and staff have contributed hundreds of hours to make this resource available to victims of the disaster as quickly as possible. Morrison & Foerster and its foundation have also donated to the relief efforts.

The Helping Handbook is now available at in English and Spanish.  We encourage the widest possible distribution of this resource. Organizations may request copies in bulk by sending a request to
