Immigration Staff Attorney
Alisa Whitfield joined the Immigration Team as a Staff Attorney in January of 2017. Prior to joining Centro, Alisa worked for Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale in San Francisco, where she represented clients in affirmative immigration applications, as well as in removal proceedings, with a focus on minimizing the immigration consequences of criminal convictions. Previously, she was a Staff Attorney for the Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project in Los Angeles where she was appointed to represent detained clients who had chronic and severe mental health issues. Alisa graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations in 2008, and received a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan in 2013. At Michigan, she completed the Program in Refugee and Asylum Law and spent a semester externing with the Refugee Rights Project of the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She also received Michigan’s Bates Overseas Fellowship to work for Asylum Access in Quito, Ecuador, where she worked directly with Colombian refugees seeking status in Ecuador. She is a member of the National Lawyers Guild and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
